I have been planning on getting a blog up and running for sometime now, but I’ve always let something keep me from doing it. Not enough time. Not enough to say. Whatever. Well, I decided that it’s time to stop making excuses and to get started. My general idea for this blog is to have an open discussion about branding and marketing strategies. This is what I know and love, so this is what you get to hear about.
There are a lot of amazing branding blogs out there already, but there is always room for something more. Before I go into any posts that relate to that, perhaps I can share a little about who I am, and why you might think I know what I am talking about. So, here goes.
My name is Lorana Price, and I’m the CEO of Holy Cow Branding. I started the company about 2 years ago after determining that I was better suited to working for myself than for someone else. When naming the company, I wanted something fun and excited that people would relate to and remember (hmm, sounds like branding 101, doesn’t it?). Most of the agencies in this area are named after the people who started them; that didn’t really move me. I wanted our staff and clients to feel connected to the firm from the get go, and that needed to start with the name.
When we thought of “Holy Cow,” we knew it was it. There are a couple of really neat things about the name, one is that we want our clients to say, “Holy Cow,” about the results we get for them. The other is that I loved the idea of answering the phone with, “Holy Cow, this is Lorana.” Silly, but fun. The very best story about our name, however, is its connection to branding history. Back in the days of the Wild West, cowboys would bring the cattle out on the range. If there was more than one cowboy out at a time, the cattle would mix together, making one big herd. The cowboys decided to create logos for their ranches so they could recognize their cows. Eventually, the cowboys developed a sense of loyalty to their brand, not so much to the owner of the ranch, but to what that ranch represented; this led to branding as we know it today. This is exactly what we focus on accomplishing with our clients.
Our corporate colors are cowboy coffee brown and sky blue. We’ve integrated these into our office space, which let’s people feel as if they are truly experiencing our brand. I even have a brown and blue business card holder that coordinates with our business cards. Believe me, this overall effect gets noticed. It’s something I recommend to our clients. Before anyone else can believe in your brand, you have to embrace it.
Talk to you soon.
